For the first documented Icelandic raven reference, we have to go all the way back to the time before Iceland was called Iceland, to the epic pioneering journey of Flóki-Vilgerðarsson, the first Norseman to deliberately visit Iceland (around the year 870). In fact, these close cousins of the common crow have been living in Iceland since long before any people dwelled here permanently. Ravens have been part of Icelandic life from the earliest times of settlement.
